About Osprey, FL

Judge John G. Webb and his family who were from Utica, New York were the first to settle in the area on the shores of Little Sarasota Bay which he later renamed Osprey, Florida after the large bird that nests in native pine trees, live oaks, and gumbo limbo trees. The Post Office in Osprey, Florida was established in 1884 and John Webb was its first postmaster. Today Osprey, Florida is a thriving community with abundant residential opportunities. Osprey, Florida is noteworthy as being the site chosen by Bertha Honore Palmer, in 1910.
